RISSA REGATTA

S A I L I N G I N S T R U C T I O N S

 

1. Rules: The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing.

 

2. Alteration of Racing Rules: Rules 61.1 and Appendix A2 are modified.

 

3. Advertising: Advertising will be restricted to category A for all non-Olympic classes. For Olympic classes advertising will be category C.

 

4. Notices to Competitors: Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board at the Barrington Yacht Club.

 

5. Changes in the Sailing Instructions: Any change(s) in the sailing instructions will be posted by 0900 hours on Saturday, 5 June and before 0830 on Sunday, 6 June, except that any change(s) in the schedule will be posted by 1800 hours on the day before it will take effect.

 

6. Schedule: On Saturday, 5 June, the Skippers meeting will be at 0930 hours at the BYC clubhouse with the first race signal at 1100 hours. On Sunday, 6 June, the harbor start will be at 0930 hours with the first race signal at 1030 hours. No race will start after 1500 hours on 6 June.

 

7. Signals made ashore: Signals made ashore will be displayed from the Race Committee Boat docked at the Barrington Yacht Club. Code flag "AP", Answering Pennant, means "the racing is postponed: do not leave the area". The new time of the warning signal will be announced at the lowering of the "AP".

 

8. Racing Areas: The rendezvous area for the first race will be off Barrington Beach.

9.1 Leeward Gate: A gate instead of a leeward mark (mark 3) may be used.

 

10. Class Start Flag Signals:

11. The start: Races will be started in accordance with racing rule 26. The start of one class may be the warning signal of the next class.

 

12. Marks: The turning marks will be tetrahedrons. The start and finish marks may be pins with orange flags or tetrahedrons or finish boats with flags.

 

13. Start and Finish Line: The start and finish line will be between an orange flag on the committee boat and a nearby mark. A different finish boat may be used with some course configurations. After her start, a boat may not cross the start/finish line except when finishing, complying with a rule, or if after finishing, refinishing. The start/finish line is an obstruction when not a mark of the course.

 

14. Time Limit: The time limit for all classes is 90 minutes. Boats finishing more than 30 minutes after the first boat will be scored DNF.

 

15. Recalls: Individual recalls will be in accordance with racing rule 29.1. General recalls will be in accordance with racing rule 29.2.

 

16. Course Change: A change of course will be signaled near the mark beginning the leg being changed by the race committee boat which will display Code Flag "C" with repetitive sounds. The direction of the change will be in accordance with Rule 33(a)(2). The change will be signaled before the leading boat has begun the leg, although the new mark may not yet be in position. Shorten course will be signaled by a race committee boat near a turning mark displaying Code Flag "S" with 2 sound signals as the leading boat approaches the mark in accordance with racing rule 32.

 

17. Safety: All competitors shall wear an appropriately fastened or zipped USCG approved PFD at all times while on the water except while briefly removing or adding clothing. Protests for safety violations may only be made by the Race Committee or Organizing Authority.

 

18. Scoring: the Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A4.1 of the racing rules will apply, except that a boat’s score will be the sum of her scores for all races unless 5 or more races are sailed. If 5 or more races have been completed, a boat’s regatta score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. One race will constitute a series. Ties not resolved by the Appendix will be broken by the relative position of the boats in the last race sailed.

 

19. Alternative Penalties: Racing rule 44 applies.

 

20. Protests: Racing rule 61.1 is modified so that a boat intending to protest shall immediately notify the race committee upon crossing the finish line or retiring, and giving the other boat(s) sail number." Protests shall be in accordance with racing rule 61.1, shall be made in writing, and filed at the Barrington Yacht Club within 30 minutes of the Race Committee signal boat docking at BYC.
